Citizens Bank in Lafayette, which operates as Traders Bank in Shelbyville and Tullahoma, has announced that bank president Joe Carter will retire in June 2019 and that Tommy Anderton, former president of Traders Bank in Shelbyville, will succeed him.
Carter is a native of Macon County and will have worked his entire banking career at Citizens Bank in Lafayette, a span of 41 years. Carter will continue to serve on the board of directors as well as on the loan committees of the bank.
"It's been an honor to work for this institution and I've made many lifetime friends during the 40 plus years I have worked here, both employees and customers. Even though I will be retiring from my daily responsibilities, I will continue to be very much involved by serving on the Board of Directors and loan committees. I will miss all of our employees and customers, however I look forward to slowing down a bit and spending more time with my family," said Carter in a news release.

The board of directors elected Anderton to the board of directors effective immediately and appointed Anderton to the position of President, effective July 1, 2019. Anderton joined the Citizens Bank family in 2015 as Executive Vice President and South Regional President after enjoying 39 years of banking experience in Tennessee. He has previous experience as CEO and president for three different banks from 1987-2015. His current responsibilities include overseeing the bank's southern Tennessee branch locations, commercial banking, and senior lending officer duties.

Citizens Bank was founded in Lafayette in 1909 and has nineteen locations in 10 counties in Middle Tennessee. The bank has grown to $915 million in assets and is now the 21st largest bank headquartered in the state of Tennessee.
