Cabot tops Southside in Citizens Bank Finals - Sports - Times Record

Cabot 64, Southside 45

BOYS — The Panthers made an early statement a month before the start of 6A-Central play.

Seth Vance scored eight of his 12 points in the first quarter as the Panthers rolled to a 64-45 win over Southside in the finals of the Citizen's Bank Tournament at Van Buren High School.

Taye Gatewood led the Mavericks (2-4) with a game-high 17 points.

Cabot (4-1) built a 23-13 lead after one quarter and led 36-21 at the half. Cabot's Jacob Hudson and Kairo Rudolph finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Mykale Franks and Tyrese Solomon had eight points apiece for the Mavericks. Southside and Cabot meet again Jan. 8.

Southisde plays Webb City Thursday at the Rogers Tournament.

Van Buren 52, Mountain Home 51

BOYS — Brayden Gilmore and Logan Brothers scored 13 points apiece and the Pointers rallied to beat Mountain Home in overtime Saturday, 52-51, at the Citizen's Bank Tournament.

The Pointers (2-3) plays Arkadelphia on Wednesday at the Cyclone Classic in Russellville.

Gary Phillips and Ethan Moore had nine points apiece for the winners. The Pointers' Trent Ball added eight points.

Mountainburg 29, St. Paul 21

GIRLS — Madelyn Beasley scored 10 points as Mountainburg beat St. Paul, 29-22, in the finals of the Decatur Tournament.

Emily France, named tournament's Most Valuable Player, added eight points.
