Heritage residents receive gifts through Dove Project - Park Rapids Enterprise

It was the second Dove Project gift unwrapping that day at Heritage Living Center.

The treats inside each package were donated by members of the community, in response to living center staff members' suggestions written on paper doves and hung on Christmas trees at Citizens National Bank, Northwoods Bank, Northview Bank and TruStar Federal Credit Union.

The gifts were personalized for each resident, according to their interests and ability levels.

"I believe the Dove program has been going on for maybe 20 years," said Kent Hjelseth, Heritage Living Center's activity director and volunteer coordinator. "The outreach of the community has been overwhelming, year after year."

Teresa Drewes, who has been on the living center staff for 16 years, said, "I don't know when this tradition started. But isn't it great? Every single person gets a gift."
